  • Akan gold—highlights

The attractively presented permanent exhibition “Akan Gold” is seen as a counterpoint to the works of contemporary art.

600 pieces of jewellery and cult objects from African tribal kingdoms (Ashanti, Baule, Fante) will be displayed in a 350 m² black cube, which will act as an annex and be directly accessible from the main area of the museum. The valuable exhibits, which mainly date from the 19th and 20th century, form one of the world’s largest and most significant collections of this type of art.

In view of the geometry of the basic designs and elementary figurative portrayals, the “Akan Gold” exhibition offers the chance to make a wealth of instructive comparisons with modern art.
