With a diverse cultural programme, Museum Liaunig has succeeded over the years in positioning itself as a lively place for encounters and cultural dialogue in southern Carinthia, which - located far away from all urban centres - attracts visitors from all over the world every year from the End of April to the end of October. After the winter break, the museum is starting the 2024 season with four new exhibitions:

In the main exhibition BLIND DATE - The Maximilian and Agathe Weishaupt Collection in Dialogue with the Liaunig Collection, curators Alexandra Schantl and Franziska Straubinger present geometric-constructivist art in its diverse, cross-national and cross-generational manifestations.

The Munich collection of Maximilian and Agathe Weishaupt, owned by the couple of the same name, focusses on art after 1945. While they initially mainly collected concrete-constructivist positions, this view has become ever broader over the years so that the collection now also includes a wide range of non-objective contemporary art from Germany and abroad.

The project IN EINEN KREIS EIN QUADRAT - (in a circle a square) by Meina Schellander (*1946) can be experienced in the Skulpturendepot.

In the graphics wing, the focus is on the artist poster collection of Peter Baum (*1939), who has built up an extensive archive as a visual artist, photographer, curator, art critic and long-time museum director. Posters from 1955 to 1975 will be on display.

The first show in the triangular special exhibition room is dedicated to the sculptor Otto Eder (1924-1982), who would have been 100 years old in 2024. From August to October, the "Old Friends" series will continue with the painter and draughtsman Roman Scheidl (*1949).

The changing retrospectives will once again form the framework for the events in the sonusiade chamber music series, which will transform Museum Liaunig into a unique concert hall for the seventh time thanks to the interplay of music, visual art and architecture. This year's matinees will focus on the young violinist Luka Ljubas (5 May), Simply Quartet (16 June) and Wolfgang Puschnig (18 August), among others. For the first time, a composition has been commissioned that refers to Meina Schellander's exhibition and will be premiered by Clementine Gasser and Matija Schellander at the sculture depot on 2 June. Another highlight is the CD presentation by Duo Sonoma, which will take place outdoors in the museum's atrium on 13 July. On 13 September, the Austrian music project ZEEBÄR EN ROCK will be on the programme. The "remnants of a ship's band from the ironic ocean" are characterised by their own German-language lyrics about seafarers who, full of passion, come into conflict with love, the Klabautermann or the Windsbraut. For the finale of the concert season, lecturers from the SONUS Chamber Music Workshop will perform on 20 October as part of SONUS OUTREACH , the (16 June) and the individual exhibition areas.

The presentations of decorated glass from the Renaissance to the Biedermeier period and rare portrait miniatures from the period between 1590 and 1890 as well as the collection of African glass bead art provide a contrasting programme to contemporary art. The sculpture park invites you to take a stroll in fine weather.
